The 32-bit version of the Windows User Agent is now live! You can download it on the same page as the 64-bit agent. To avoid confusion between versions, the 32-bit download is accessed by a text link in italics on the page.

Josh Lamb: Thanks for the update. The documentation still states "32-bit Unsupported". I think this warning can be removed.

It's relatively straight forward to get running on a 32bit PC. I have done this on a 32bit Windows 7 PC running SP1 earlier today.
- Install on a 64bit PC first.
- Then copy the "C:\Program Files\DNSFilter Agent folder" to a USB pen, for example.
- Run regedit and export the following keys to the USB pen:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DNSFilter] All Keys and their contents
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator] You only need "UseGlobalDNS"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
You only need "DNSFilter Agent TrayIcon"
Important: When you have exported the keys, edit and change the 'ClientId' value to "" in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DNSFilter to remove the ID already present from the 64bit PC.
- Now go to the 32bit PC
- Ensure you have at least .NET Framework 4.5.2 or higher installed. If not - install it.
- Copy the "DNSFilter Agent folder" from the USB pen into the "C:\Program Files" folder.
- Double click and import each of the registry files backed up onto the USB pen from step 3.
- Run CMD as an administrator to get the command prompt.
- Type in the following command to register the DNS Filter service:
sc create "DNS Filter Agent" binpath= "C:\Program Files\DNSFilter Agent\DNSFilter Agent.exe" DisplayName= "DNS Filter Agent"
- Type in the following command to add the first certificate file:
certutil -addstore -enterprise -f "Root" "c:\program files\DNSFilter Agent\DNSFilter.cer"
- Type in the following command to add the second certificate file:
certutil -addstore -enterprise -f "Root" "c:\program files\DNSFilter Agent\NetAlerts.cer"
- Now type in the following command:
services.msc
- Scroll down to the DNS Filter Agent. Double click and set 'Startup type' to 'Automatic'.
- Click the 'Recovery' tab and set the 'First failure' and 'Second' failure and 'Subsequent failures' to 'Restart the Service'.
Reboot your 32bit PC and when it restarts and you log on you should be all up and running!
I hope this helps people.
Tony
Seriously? No 32-bit version? Who made this brilliant decision? Do I need to change to OpenDNS?
jeff
We definitely need a 32 bit version....
Randy
