4/9 April 9 - ChromeOS Roaming Client v2.4.0

Ahead of Google's deprecation of Manifest v2, which is the architecture on which the ChromeOS Roaming Client has been based, we are releasing a final build for this specific ecosystem before releasing an all new Manifest V3 compatible ChromeOS Roaming Client v3.0 in May.

The following enhancements are included in this release:

Enhancements

Introduced new hidden metadata field for hashed device serial number, in preparation for the new Manifest V3 compatible Chrome RC due out in May.

NOTE

It is advised to double check your Google Workspace / RMM settings for automatic updates for Google extensions. This specific version of the ChromeOS Roaming Client includes a new backend metadata field that will prevent the new version in May from duplicating Roaming Client records in the dashboard. Failing to update to this interim version will result in the aforementioned duplication.

Mar 27, 2024 Release - Chrome RC 2.3.0

A new version of the Chrome extension Roaming Client v2.3.0 is now available.
Improvements 🛠️
This version includes a behavior change when the Chrome Ext attempts to connect from a Chrome device or browser that is unmanaged.
 We've always recommended that our Chrome Ext be used on only managed devices due to the end user of an unmanaged device being able to easily remove or disable the extension. 
However, in previous versions of the Chrome RC, when connections were attempted on an unmanaged device the extension would register with DNSFilter as a new device with an empty hostname, leading to unwanted clutter in the Dashboard. In 2.3.0, Chrome RC will no longer registry as a new device when run on an unmanaged, making managed devices required to run DNSFilter's Chrome Extension

July 26 Chrome Extension Roaming Client [2.1.0]

The Chrome Extension Roaming Client 2.1.0 will start being released on July 26th 2022 at 9:15am (eastern, UTC -5). This new release includes:
Automatic User Creation
Currently, the Windows RC automatically creates a user under Deployments, Users when a new roaming client is deployed, allowing owners and admins to assign the user to a collection and apply a corresponding policy.
Without this functionality, owners/admins/edit policy users must rely on machine names alone to identify Users for policy assignment. This release adds automatic user creation to the Chrome Extension RC
Note: 
User creation will only occur if the user is logged into the Chrome browser with Sync either turned OFF or ON. If a user is not logged into the Chrome browser, User Creation will not occur since the user can't be identified.
Local Domains 
Currently, the Windows, iOS RC allows for adding domains/DNS suffixes that will be sent to the local DNS resolver instead of DNSFilter. This is often used to support corporate intranet or other LAN local tools. This release adds Local Domains to the Chrome Extension RC.
