RC Client - Start Without Menu Tray Item & Built-in macOS/iOS Profiles
Eric Nix
Two suggestions for the RC clients:
- Allow an option to start the RC client without the menu tray item. You can close the menu tray item manually, but there should be an option to start without it being visible.
- DNSFilter should devote some attention to iOS and macOS network profile configurations. NextDNS allows Apple profiles to be installed in iOS/macOS settings that sets network/DNS settings. This option is also available for AppleTVs.

Great idea, but sort of a no-brainer.
As of 2.2.0 June 2025 this feature still doesnt exist on Mac (but available on Windows). As a new customer coming from Umbrella and Akamai (both had this option years ago), Im surprised this option doesn't exist already.
I think we should be able to manage this setting in the DNSFilter admin console, but an MDM profile works, too.

For anyone looking to do this, it's as simple as deleting the app from the Applications folder.
After installing DNSFilter using the bash script provided for RMM deployment I just added a bit of my own code to move the uninstall.sh script to another location should we need it and then remove DNS Agent.app. This leaves all the other Launch Agents/Daemons/plist files that actually make DNSFilter work, but without any obvious signs to the user.
It's not the most graceful of solutions, but it works. Not sure if it causes any issues with DNSFilter updates, but the Mac App quite literally never gets updated from what I can tell.

Nick can you post that up for others to make use of?

Seems like this should be there for an enterprise tool.

Yes, please!
Trevor Sysock
many competitors have this feature

Not for the clients eyes.
With that said, I would like to see data about DNS filter our our MSP tools but nothing client facing.

use this command after installation: osascript -e 'quit app "DNSFilter Agent"'

Umbrella has this feature :)
