Passkey Login Support for DNSFilter App Dashboard
Eric Nix
Summary
Allow administrators to log into the DNSFilter dashboard using passkeys instead of a username and password.
Problem
Dashboard authentication currently requires a password, paired with MFA through authenticator apps or email. Customers who prefer passwordless authentication cannot currently use passkeys for direct dashboard login.
Requested Capability
- Allow passkey-based login to the DNSFilter dashboard (WebAuthn/FIDO2)
- Support passkeys stored in platforms such as Bitwarden, Apple iCloud Keychain, Windows Hello, or similar providers
- Maintain compatibility with existing SSO workflows, where authentication is handled by the identity provider
- Optionally support hardware security keys as an additional authentication method
Customer Value
- Enables passwordless login for the DNSFilter dashboard
- Provides a more convenient authentication option for administrators
- Supports modern authentication methods already used by many password managers and devices

Eric Nix Could you clarify where you’re hoping to use passkeys?
For example:
- Logging into the DNSFilter dashboard directly
- Logging in through a single sign-on provider (Okta, Entra ID, Google, etc.)
If you're using SSO, passkey support is typically managed by the identity provider. Let us know a bit more about your setup so we can better understand the request.

Minetta Gould Logging into the dashboard with passkeys instead of username/password only. The SSO would be handled by the SSO provider if a user chooses that option.

Eric Nix: Thanks for the added context!
To make sure the post is clear and actionable for our product team in the future, I'd like to update the original post to focus on the specific login experience you’re looking for.
Do either of these suggestions fit? Still not 100% sure your end-goal so want to get it right 🙂
- The ability to log into the DNSFilter dashboard without entering a password, using a passkey (Face ID, Windows Hello, security key, etc.)
- The ability for password managers to save and autofill login credentialsfor the dashboard
I can update the request once we hear back from you and then we sit back and wait for votes and comments!

Minetta Gould Ability to log into the dashboard with passkey only. Passkey can be stored wherever (Bitwarden, Apple iCloud, Windows Hello, etc.). You mention security key... that's more MFA, but would be nice to see that as an option instead of only being allowed to use a code generating app. Most passkeys don't also require MFA. The passkey cannot be phished as it's tied to the domain. Password managers can already save/autofill login credentials (I'm doing so with Bitwarden currently).

Eric Nix: Thanks for the additional clarification — that’s helpful.
I’ve updated the original post to capture a bit more detail.
If I missed something, feel free to edit anything that should be adjusted so the request accurately reflects what you’re looking for!
